Genhi Givings Bailey named "Diversity Champion" by the National Association of Law Placement
DLA Piper is pleased to announce that Genhi Givings Bailey, the firm's director of diversity and inclusion, has been named a ''Diversity Champion'' by the National Association for Law Placement (NALP) in the category of ''Working on the Pipeline.''
Bailey was recognized for her work in developing and implementing initiatives that address a variety of issues, including work-life integration; recruitment, retention, advancement, and leadership opportunities; and education on topics such as unconscious bias and emotional intelligence. In her interview with the NALP, Bailey highlighted DLA Piper’s Undergraduate Internship Program, which introduces undergraduate students to the practice of law, prepares them to be successful in law school, and creates the foundation for a strong professional network.
In addition, Bailey discussed her professional experience prior to joining DLA Piper, including working as a diversity recruiter and consultant who advised law firms on diversity best practices. Earlier in her career, she practiced law in the music industry advising independent artists and small businesses in the areas of entity formation, contracts and intellectual property rights.
The NALP Diversity Champion Project is a platform to highlight the work of some of the most innovative diversity and inclusion practitioners in the legal industry. Candidates were carefully chosen through a comprehensive search that included the feedback and advice of NALP's former presidents, current and former Diversity and Inclusion Section chairs, former and present SOGIE (f/k/a LGBT) Section chairs, regional representatives, and work group members. Candidates were interviewed about their careers, achievements, and efforts to make the legal profession more inclusive.
