DLA Piper named a top law firm for women by Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that it has once again been named one of the 50 best law firms for women by Working Mother magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers.

For the fifth consecutive year, DLA Piper was recognized for its success in hiring, retaining and promoting women; commitment to providing flexible work arrangements; and initiatives that support the advancement of women in law.

"This is a comprehensive and rigorous survey and this recognition is the result of some of the best policies, practices and initiatives that advance women in our firm," said Lisa Haile, co-chair of DLA Piper's Leadership Alliance for Women (LAW) and a member of the firm's Executive Committee. LAW, launched in 2006, is focused on supporting women lawyers through internal networking, developing leadership skills and creating business development opportunities.

"We are proud of what we have accomplished to-date, but there is still much work to be done, and as we look ahead, we want to improve our firm's efforts to be a leader in diversity and fostering a culture of inclusion," said Stefanie Fogel, co-founder and co-chair of LAW and a partner in DLA Piper's Boston office.

As part of the firm's ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, in June, DLA Piper announced it was partnering with Diversity Lab to pilot the Mansfield Rule, an initiative through which participating firms will consider at least 30 percent women and attorneys of color for leadership and governance roles, equity partner promotions and lateral positions.

"Our adoption of the Mansfield Rule is a reflection of what we believe is a moral and business imperative not just for our firm, but for the legal industry. It is one part of a larger strategy to foster greater inclusion in our firm’s culture, and we are grateful to Working Mother for recognizing our continued commitment," said Roger Meltzer, DLA Piper global co-chairman and co-chairman of the Americas.

In addition to the Working Mother recognition, DLA Piper recently received its fifth Gold Standard Certification from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum (WILEF). WILEF's Gold Standard Certification certifies and broadly celebrates and publicizes eligible law firms that have integrated women into the highest leadership positions in their firms. It is the only certification program of its kind.

Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers co-founded the Best Law Firms for Women initiative in 2007 to recognize firms that lead the industry in initiatives for women's business development and career advancement, in addition to offering such benefits as flexible work arrangements and paid parental leave.
