DLA Piper joins UK Pride celebrations
Last weekend our LGBT+ network, Iris, teamed up with Lloyds Banking Group and #BuildingEquality, a working group of construction and property organisations, to celebrate Leeds Pride. Clients, colleagues and intermediaries gathered for a sparkling brunch, where guests decorated their own construction hard hats with Pride materials before joining the parade through Leeds city center. During the parade, we were accompanied by a rainbow JCB digger, complete with its own sound system.
The Leeds event was preceded by celebrations at Liverpool Pride, where colleagues from our North West offices marched with The Tritons - Merseyside's first gay inclusive rugby team made up of LGBT+ players and allies from all walks of life. We kicked off with a hearty breakfast and marched suitably adorned with music, balloons and giant rugby balls.
Our colleagues in Birmingham paved the way earlier this year, marching through the city in their rainbow painted glory, to support unity for the LGBT+ and wider community.
Dean Peachey, International Co-Chair of Iris and an associate in our Leeds office said, "DLA Piper was the first global law firm to march in the Leeds Pride parade, and two years on we are very proud of the progress that Iris has made, both internally and externally with our clients. It has been overwhelming to see how many colleagues and clients have joined Pride events across our UK offices. Iris is going from strength to strength, and we have even bigger ideas for the future."
Mitra Janes, Head of Diversity and Inclusion at DLA Piper UK LLP said, "We are firmly committed to diversity and inclusion. We're proud to have a presence at Pride events across the UK and to join the drive to raise awareness of LGBT+ issues across our firm and more broadly in society."
